Cheapest Internet Plans Worth Having in 2026

Entry plans at or under $40/month ranked on real value: what you get for the money, what the price becomes after the promo, and the fees that eat the savings.

Updated October 30, 20266 providers scoredHow we scored

A $20 internet plan that becomes $55 in month 13 is not a cheap plan. This ranking only admits plans advertised at $40 or less, then scores them on the same six criteria as our main list — so a bargain with hidden equipment fees and no post-promo disclosure lands below a slightly pricier plan that stays put.

If you qualify for a low-income program, check the provider's own discounted tier first; several offer 50–100 Mbps plans in the $15–$30 range that are not shown on standard plan pages.

The cheapest plans by type

Fiber: Kinetic from $19.99 and Frontier and Brightspeed from $29.99, all first-year promos. Cable: Spectrum Internet 100 at $30 for 12 months and Optimum promos from $35. Fixed wireless: none under $40 without a mobile-line discount — T-Mobile Rely is $35 only with a voice line.

How to keep a cheap plan cheap

Use your own modem where allowed, decline whole-home Wi-Fi add-ons unless your house needs them, set a calendar reminder for the month your promo ends, and ask retention for the current new-customer price when it does. Providers with multi-year guarantees (Xfinity, Verizon, T-Mobile) make the reminder unnecessary.

Frequently asked questions

Are the prices on this page before fees?

Yes — advertised monthly prices exclude taxes and, where noted, equipment and network fees. The data table lists each provider's equipment and installation terms.
