Best Internet Providers of 2026

We scored 11 national and regional internet providers on entry price per 100 Mbps, top speed, upload performance, fee transparency, ACSI/J.D. Power satisfaction and availability. Prices verified Oct 30, 2026.

Updated October 30, 202613 providers scoredHow we scored

Most "best internet" lists are a popularity contest. Ours is arithmetic. We pulled the current advertised price, speed and fine print for every provider that serves a meaningful share of US homes, normalized them, and scored each one on six published criteria. The result is a ranking that rewards what you actually pay per megabit, whether the price survives month 13, and how customers rate the service in independent studies — not who has the biggest ad budget.

Two things to know before you read the table. First, availability is the real filter: the best provider in America is useless if it does not pass your address, so every entry links to the provider's own availability check. Second, we flag every number we could not verify as "unknown" instead of guessing. Where a provider hides its post-promo price, that costs it points.

How we ranked them

Each provider receives a 0–100 score from six weighted criteria: value (entry price per 100 Mbps, 25%), top available speed (15%), upload performance (10%), fees and contract transparency (20%), customer satisfaction from the 2026 ACSI study and J.D. Power's October 2026 regional results (20%), and availability (10%). Weights and the raw inputs are published on every ranking page. Advertising relationships never enter the score — see How we make money.

What to check at your address

Fiber is almost always the right answer when it is available: symmetrical speeds, no data caps and, in most markets, flat pricing. Cable (Xfinity, Spectrum, Optimum) is the realistic choice for most households and now competes on multi-year price locks. 5G home internet (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T Internet Air) is the fastest-growing category and usually the cheapest to set up, but speeds depend on your distance from the tower and how busy it is at 8 p.m. Run the provider's address check for all three types before you decide.

Fees that change the real price

The advertised number is rarely what you pay. Add equipment ($10–$15 a month at Optimum, Kinetic and legacy Cox unless the plan includes it), installation ($0–$100), activation ($20 at Spectrum), and the step-up after a 12-month promo (Frontier, Kinetic, Spectrum). AutoPay-and-paperless discounts of $5–$10 are baked into almost every advertised price, and Xfinity and AT&T Internet Air give the full discount only when AutoPay runs from a bank account. Our fee-transparency score penalizes providers that do not disclose the post-promo price.

Bottom line

If AT&T Fiber, Frontier Fiber, Brightspeed or Quantum Fiber serves your address, start there. If you are on cable, Xfinity's five-year price guarantee is the strongest consumer-friendly change in the market this year. If neither fiber nor cable reaches you, Verizon 5G Home and T-Mobile Home Internet are legitimate primary connections for most households, and both carry multi-year price guarantees.

Frequently asked questions

How often is this ranking updated?

Provider prices and plan details were verified on October 30, 2026 against provider pages and dated secondary sources, and the data table shows the observation date for every fact. We re-check monthly and whenever a provider announces a price change.

Do you rank providers you do not have a partnership with?

Yes. Spectrum, T-Mobile Home Internet and Cox appear in this ranking without any commercial relationship. Partners are marked, and the score formula is identical for everyone.

Why is upload speed a separate criterion?

Video calls, cloud backups and gaming depend on upload capacity, and cable plans that advertise 1 Gig down often deliver 20–35 Mbps up. Fiber's symmetrical speeds are a real, everyday advantage, so we score it.

Is 5G home internet good enough as a main connection?

For most households, yes — streaming, remote work and gaming work well on a solid signal. Speeds are address-dependent and may slow at peak times, so use the 15-day trial periods both Verizon and T-Mobile offer.

What does "unknown" mean in the table?

We could not find the number on the provider's site or a dated, reputable source during our check. We never estimate those fields; a provider that hides its post-promo price is scored accordingly.
